A step-by-step example of Test with AI: one plain-words strategy, the plan the app made of it, and what it did on SPX from January to March 2023, spread by spread.
New guide: straddles, strangles, butterflies and calendars
What each of the five newer +Strat shapes looked like on SPX on 3 June 2024, and a sold iron butterfly followed day by day through the rally that came next.
This list is now the one place to see what changed. Click the version number in the app, or What's new at the bottom of any page.
The front page and the guides now describe the app as it is today, including Test with AI and the free allowance.
A clearer Premium page
If you have already asked to hear when Premium opens, the Premium page says you are on the list instead of offering the button again.
On a computer, the Premium page uses the whole screen: Free and Premium side by side with the real numbers, and a few quick answers. On a phone it stacks.
Charts load straight away
The price chart draws its candles within moments of opening.
The first candle of a test's chart opens at the previous day's close, like every other candle.
Your profile picture sits at the far left of the top bar.
Test with AI
Describe a strategy in plain words and pick the dates. The app turns it into a plan you can read first, then runs it day by day on the real prices, pressing Next day once a second. Pause, Resume and Stop sit beside Next day.
If the words ask for something the app cannot do, or a plan it could never open, it says so before anything runs.
A page reloaded during a run takes the run back, paused.
Free accounts get a number of AI runs; the Test with AI window shows how many you have left.
+Strat now opens an iron butterfly, a straddle, a strangle, a butterfly and a calendar spread, as well as credit and debit spreads and the condor. Custom… opens the option chain to build anything by hand.
Each ticket lets you choose its expiry by date, from a calendar of the listed expiries, or by days, and remembers what you last entered.
When no listed expiry is near the days asked for, the app asks you which one to use instead of guessing.
Every ticker box drops down the tickers the data has on your test day.
An order that would leave your account short of margin is refused, as a broker would, and a pop-up tells you if the market pushes the account past that line.
Positions carry through a stock split the way a broker would convert them, and the chart does not show the split as a crash.
Click the test's date at the top to open the Test panel; its calendar sits at the top and a long list of saved tests scrolls on its own.
The premium page
The Premium page says what premium will add and that it is not open yet. There is nothing to pay.
Signed in, press Notify me to be told when it opens. If you already have premium, the page says so and lists what you get.
Your picture opens your account menu
Click your Google picture (or your initial) at the top for your name and email, Activity history, Test, Premium and Sign out.
Free guides with real examples
Guides on testmylegs.com: an SPX iron condor, a put credit spread, TQQQ and SOXL options, an iron condor through the 2008 crash, and manual versus automatic backtesting. Every example in them was done in Test My Legs on the real historical prices.
Visitors see what Test My Legs does, a picture of a real test day and one Start now button.
Links to testmylegs.com show a proper picture when shared, and search engines can find the public pages.
The free plan
Free accounts get a number of Next day presses across all their tests, and keep a saved test. The pill beside Next day shows how many presses are left; going back in time does not give presses back.
When the free presses or tests run out, the app asks "Enjoying Test My Legs?" and offers the premium page.
Your first test starts from the Test panel
Until you have a test, the Test panel stays open and says "Start your first test", so you never land on an empty app with no date.
Simpler to use
Preview a trade and press Execute: it fills at once on the test day's prices.
You have one test account, so the chart, the option chain and the activity history never ask which account.
The page updates itself after anything you do and when you come back to its tab, and an open chart moves on as soon as you press Next day.
Credit and debit spreads, editable tickets, a warning before legs expire
+Strat opens credit and debit spreads.
On a +Strat ticket every leg shows its strike and its delta, and both can be edited: type a delta and the strike moves to the nearest listed one; type a strike and its delta and price follow.
Next day asks first when any leg would expire that day, naming each one.
Your own legs' cost basis and P&L switch between "since open" (every roll included) and "current" (just the contract you hold now).
A new look
A Test My Legs icon in the browser tab: an amber coin with a two-leg tent shape, and a calm dark navy top bar.
The support email address on the Privacy and Terms pages shows as plain text.
Test My Legs opens: practise option trades on real historical prices
Sign in with your Google account. Your tests, saves and notes are kept in your own account.
Pick a past trading day and a starting cash amount, and the app replays the real historical option prices one trading day at a time. Press Next day to move on.
Open single legs with +leg, an iron condor with +Strat, or pick several legs off the option chain. Roll, close, group and journal them; each group adds up its own value and profit or loss.
Save a test, load it later, or go back to any day the test has already reached. The price chart shows candles, volume and RSI, with your ticked legs drawn on it.
There is no broker connection and no real money. Every fill, cash figure and profit or loss is worked out from the historical prices.
See it for yourself. Test My Legs is free: pick a past day and step through it.
